  The Value of College Education
College Education Value

...In some businesses a prerequisite, for a promotion is that you have some type of degree related to that business. Sometimes there is a disadvantage of having a college education depending on the geographical location of where you live. For instance, some small towns, that don't have many businesses, have the same people that have been working for them for years, without a college degree. If a young person who just got out of college tried to get a job, they may be discriminated against because of their higher education. These employers may see them as a threat because they would want to get paid more, or they may think that person might take their job. Some get left behind and some get chosen. Then you have your prominent small towns, where they only want college educated people, to be doctors, lawyers, or someone with a higher education to continue running the family business.
Most of the time, it is better to go to the bigger cities where people with a college education have preference and are usually paid at a higher rate, due to the competitiveness of the job market. Some people just want a college education to fulfill their need of learning. They need to learn as much as they can on a wide variety of subjects. Some people are addicted to learning and without the continuing education; it leaves them feeling like there is something missing from their lives. There are people that go for many degrees on end and never go into the career that they went to school for, but just to have that piece of paper in their hand is more valuable. But to have that knowledge is more fulfilling then anything, to accomplish something that high. Others may have grown up in poverty and want a college education and thus will value it more then others. The case may be that no one in there family went to college or even finished high school. Just to make something more of themselves and that is what they feel is the real value of a college education.
Some people don't realize the value of a college education. Their parents may pay for them to go off to college and they take it for granted, and think of it as a time to party. Some might think they can get through on the family name, just show up, and go through the motions. They apply themselves just enough to get passing grades. However, after their college days are done and gone, many will regret such irresponsible actions. They will find that they have a tougher time obtaining higher paying jobs or careers that suit them, due to their lack of knowledge.
But when you pay for your own college that is when you value it the most. You know that you are trying to better yourself at your own expense, and if you fail you will only be failing yourself. Most people will want to succeed more, then to let themselves down. Also, when someone goes to school for a career to help people, that's when you value your college education the most. For example, these people include teachers, doctors, social workers and law enforcement. Most of these people would get a higher incentive bonus for their continued higher education, beside the increased knowledge that would benefit them in their respective career. Many athletes may continue on to college to pursue athletic careers. They value their college educations mostly to excel at sports and don't realize the importance of the education. Later on after their sports careers are over they then have something to fall back on. Then they realize how lucky they were to obtain the college education. In addition, some people may value it the most, because they get free college. I think a lot of these athletes that go to college also want better knowledge in life and to succeed...
